hei hei 08/12/19

Finnish word of the week: hei hei (hay hay) goodbye

i'm going to go say hei hei to the congo family soon. oh my! my heart is breaking! haha i am not ready to leave!! They are doing good. they were in church and we are still teaching them. They are progressing despite their fears.

on Sunday one of the cute primary kids was introducing me to a guest and he told them I was from oulu!! Haha after serving here for the last 8 months I definitely feel like oulu is home. I'm so sad to leave! the people here are so wonderful...I'm going to miss it a lot!
soo...a little background story haha we had some members in the ward who are big bloggers here in Finland. I've been in some of their stuff lol cuz they've done a lot of awesome work with us annndd anyways we were contacting in the city center and this cute girl approached me and told me she recognized me from their blog! hahaha she asked us a bunch of questions about the church because she had heard things from the blogs. it was way cool and she ended up taking a book! woot woot!
I reached my 18 months last week! so weird! I cant believe it's actually been 18 months! where did time go??

my mission has been one of the best experiences of my life. I love the Finnish people. It's breaking my heart to leave them! I am beyond grateful for this opportunity I have had to serve.

I love this gospel and I know it's true. I feel so lucky to have been able to witness the change that takes place in people as they learn of Christ and His atonement. His atonement helped me through the good and the bad. I know that the Book of Mormon is truly a second testimony of Christ. I know that He lives. I love my mission and the sweet people of Finland.

Berry picking from last week

Berry picking from last week

and… the Congo family.

Thursday we met with them and they were SO prepared and the lesson was soo good and they were so excited for their baptism on Saturday.

on Friday we went back over with the elders so they could have their baptismal interview and when we got there they had a guest....their old pastor came all the way from Sweden to stop the baptism. and it worked.

they have some fears and concerns now...it doesn't help that the pastor can speak their mother tongue..we taught the pastor and the family the restoration again and the importance of authority and the pastor man was shocked with our message..it was kinda looking good for a bit! then the Congo fam parents pointed out how good the message is and the importance of being baptized and receiving the gift of the holy ghost and when they mentioned the holy ghost the pastor guy went crazy and asked for signs and said all these not super good things....

we talked about the importance of faith and the Congo family asked for more time. they want to study more and attend church more and meet with us more. so we will see. I know that God has a plan for this family.

20190801-20190801_191205.jpg

satan has been working hard on us but we are trying to work harder! we have faced some tough challenges this week but I know that as we endure these challenges well the Lord will be with us.

Haha not gonna lie it has been a little hard to sleep! we don't have the best black out curtains....so I bought an eye mask thing and it helps a little lol

Happy Father's Day Buckwheat!! I love you dad! hope it was a good one.

finnish word of the week: nainen (n-eye-nen) woman.

last transfer sister kokkola and i met a cool nainen on our way home from helsinki! we gave her our emails and told her to keep in touch. she emailed us both this last week so that was a fun surprise.

District pic from a few weeks ago at the Finland temple

District pic from a few weeks ago at the Finland temple

Sister Kokkola and I were at the church for a dinner appointment with a member on Sunday and somebody rang the doorbell (haha yep church buildings here have doorbells). There was a nainen neither of us knew at the door and she asked if she could come read her book in the chapel. We told her sure and grabbed a Book of Mormon and encouraged her to read it too.

Instead of taking the book she reached in her bag and pulled out her own copy! We asked her where she got it and she pointed at Sister Kokkola and said "you gave it to me!!". haha you guys! She said she had read the beginning of the book and felt the shivers! We taught her the Restoration and part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ right there with our member friend and it was the most amazing thing!  She is SO prepared! We are meeting with her again on Wednesday! woot woot! It was for sure a miracle.

soo...we get transfer calls on Friday! So weird!! I also have a meeting thing this week called My Plan. Message 06/11/19

Finnish Word Of The Week: Sanoma (Saw-No-Mah) Message

We Met Some More Peeps From The Congo Haha But This Time They Are Pastors In The Pentecostal Church. Haha They Let Us In And Told Us They Would Read The Book Of Mormon. So! We'll See What Happens! They Were Actually Pretty Interested In Our Sanoma.

P1100085.JPG

We Had A Baby Blessing In The Ward This Week! Here In Finland Parents Don't Tell The Babies Name Until They Are Blessed. Everybody Was So Excited After The Blessing! Haha It Was Cute.

We Had Some Exchanges This Week! It Was Literally The Hottest Day Yet This Summer And I Got A Gnarly Burn On My Neck Haha But It Was Worth It! Those Sisters Are Awesome!

P1100113.JPG

Wow...Not Going To Lie Guys These Past Few Weeks Have Been TOUGH! There Have Been So Many Things Going On...Honestly The Other Day I Was Feeling Really Overwhelmed. While Studying I Came Across A Story In The Book Of Mormon About When Alma And His People Were Captured By The Lamanites. There Are A Few Different Moments When God Helped Them Out..But Two Verses I Want To Mention Are:

Mosiah 24:14&15
14 And I Will Also Ease The Burdens Which Are Put Upon Your Shoulders, That Even You Cannot Feel Them Upon Your Backs, Even While You Are In Bondage; And This Will I Do That Ye May Stand As Witnesses For Me Hereafter, And That Ye May Know Of A Surety That I, The Lord God, Do Visit My People In Their Afflictions.

15 And Now It Came To Pass That The Burdens Which Were Laid Upon Alma And His Brethren Were Made Light; Yea, The Lord Did Strengthen Them That They Could Bear Up Their Burdens With Ease, And They Did Submit Cheerfully And With Patience To All The Will Of The Lord.

P1100106.JPG

They Say These People Weren't Delivered Right Away From Their Tough Times, But The Lord Showed His Goodness And Blessed Them. After Lots Of Prayer And Pondering I Have Been Able To Find Peace.Through Our Smallest Plea He Can Make Our Biggest Burdens Light. Reach Out To Him! He Wants To Help You! If You Haven't Prayed In A While...Do It Right Now!! He Is Waiting!

Hyvää Viikkoa!

Love,

Sisar Larson
